Need help choosing a domain name?
A successful domain name should always contain at least one of your businesses keywords, so if your business is baking cakes, cupcake.co.uk would be a good choice.
Not surprisingly DIY store B&Q own the domain diy.com and diy.co.uk, along with bandq.com, to cover both keywords and brand name.
You are only allowed to use letters, numbers and hyphen "-" in your domain name. Special characters like the ampersand "&" or underscore "_" are not permitted.
.co.uk, .com, .net, .biz, .org, and .org.uk are typical used as business domains.
.name, .me, and .me.uk are typical used as personal domains.
When buying a domain name (e.g. yourbusiness.co.uk), you may also want to register other TLD (Top Level Domain) for the same prefix (e.g. yourbusiness.com, yourbusiness.net).
This ensures that no one else can come in at a later stage and capitalise on your brand name by using another major domain name type.
For example facebook.co.uk is not affiliated in any way with facebook.com, I'd always recommend purchasing the .co.uk, .com, .net and .org variants to protect your personal, product or businesses brand.
There's no harm buying more variants (e.g. yourbusiness.tv, yourbusiness.mobi).
.tv domains are typical for products that appear on television.
.mobi domains are typical used for mobile optimised websites.
.info domains are typical used to provide information.
.tel domains are typical used to provide contact details.
